Pants to shorts refashion

I've been complaining to my fiance that I don't have enough shorts for the summer. So I decided to make some! It was a pretty easy refashion. I marked how much I wanted to shorten them, cut the legs, hemmed and sewed away! I will definitely be making more.

Wardrobe Refashion Round 3

Sadly the Wardrobe Refashion blog is now defunct, but you can still view their archives http://www.nikkishell.typepad.com/wardroberefashion/ I have soooo much clothes I don't wear. I'm probably going to donate most of them but I want to refashion a few items. I'm going to try this for 2 months.

I pledge that I shall refashion, renovate, recycle, preloved items for myself for the term of my contract. I pledge that I shall create and craft items of clothing for myself with my own hands in fabric, yarn or other medium for the term of my contract.

Pillow case

I made a pillow case today. I haven't sewed in ages it seems. I got a brand new sewing machine last year and it sat in the box until today. I had picked up some pretty vintage fabric at a thrift shop for inspiration. I followed the tutorial here:http://www.sewmamasew.com/2013/07/easy-pillowcase-tutorial/. After almost three hours (I did have to set up the machine. For some reason, the genius who put the machine together, stuck a plastic bobbin the the shuttle and I had a heck of a time getting it out! It wouldn't release. I finally thought of using a paper clip. Then I had to wind the bobbin and thread the machine. Then I had to pin the material and sew it. Then the machine kept jamming because the material was thin and it didn't like it. It came out kind of narrow because I just used one of the 1 yard fabrics I picked up, but I squeezed my pillow in there! I'm proud of my self for sticking through it and not giving up.
